Registration for Assembly 2016, God~Faith~People, is now open! We invite you to join us as we celebrate our covenant as God’s people in Saskatoon, Sask. July 6-10. Learn more in the stories below.

In this edition:

Keeping up with #thecovenantcrew

Christ at the coffee shop: Conversations about evangelism

In the spring of 2015, Pastor Kassa Lemma of Rehoboth Evangelical Church in Toronto invited Mennonite Church Canada Executive Director Willard Metzger to speak at an Ethiopian evangelistic conference. Metzger admits that his first response was hesitant. “We don’t do that anymore as Mennonites.” But he says the more he thought about it, the more he realized that Mennonites do engage in evangelism—they just go about it in different ways. (February 19, 2016)

Stories you might have missed:

Caring for refugees

Mennonite Church Canada congregations are taking the words of Deuteronomy 10: 18-19 to heart by caring for Syrian refugees. The Deuteronomy passage shares God’s desire to cloth and feed strangers. It’s a rather fitting way for Mennonites to express God’s love; many of them were once refugees to Canada too. (February 4, 2016)

Biker club Christians

Violating the conventions of biker culture landed the UK Christian motorcycle club God’s Squad in hot water. With the help of their president Joseph (pseudonym) who is a member of the Anabaptist Network, they kept their cool and found a peaceful path to resolution. (February 4, 2016)

Ministers Conference 2016: Challenge and change

Challenge and change occur in every organization including the church, but covenantal relationships call the church to fundamentally different approaches for managing them. That’s the message that consultant, author, coach, and spiritual director Susan Beaumont is bringing to Mennonite Church Canada’s Ministers Conference in Saskatoon, Sask. July 6, 2016. (January 22, 2016)

Future Directions: Myths and Message

Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves. . . Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer.

~poet and novelist Rainer Maria Rilke (February 4, 2016)
