MDS Family Project at Camp Assiniboia, Manitoba & Silver Lake Mennonite Camp, Ontario! MDS is partnering with these two Mennonite Camps to build cabins and other small buildings. Families with children of all ages are encouraged to come and learn from each other while serving others. In Ontario, food and camping sites are provided. In Manitoba food and camping sites are provided as well as some housing in the SS rooms of a local church. Cost is $75/family unit. Working with Christian Peacemaker Teams in Kurdistan, Kathy Moorhead Thiessen sought people willing to share their stories through art or photography. The result is the exhibition, Stories in Art from Iraqi Kurdistan, which opened at the Mennonite Heritage Centre Gallery on April 2, 2016. Pray that this exhibition will be widely viewed and bring voice to the voiceless.

Canadian Mennonite University Events and Opportunities for Church Bulletins

 

1.      Come to A Fresh Look at CMU: A Spring Evening Fundraiser in support of Canadian Mennonite University on Thursday, April 7 from 7:00–9:00 PM at the Shaftesbury campus.  Discover the learning, teaching, research and impact of CMU’s faculty, alumni and students. Celebrate the 2nd annual CMU PAX Award being given to Mr. Arthur DeFehr for a lifelong commitment to humanitarian affairs and bringing peoples and organizations together to make good change possible. 7.      Freedom of Movement: The 9th annual conference of the Canadian Association for Refugees and Forced Migration Studies (CARFMS) will take place at Menno Simons College on May 11–14. Internationally recognized scholars, legal experts, and practitioners will explore what the fundamental right to “Freedom of Movement” means in today’s global refugee crisis. Sam's Place Film Night - On Monday, April 11 at 7:00, Sam’s Place Film Night welcomes special guest Rita/Bev Jones and presents the 2008 documentary film that tells the story of her life: Policy Baby: The Journey of Rita/Bev. An Indigenous woman who was taken away from her birth mother at the age of two months, Bev struggled for decades to find her home once again in the Indigenous community, now as a Child and Family Services worker. Come hear Bev’s insights and share her journey, part of which takes place in Winnipeg. Policy Baby is 55 minutes long and is not rated.
