Bulletin  Announcements for Sunday, August 7, 2016:

·         The Mennonite Church Canada website now has a 9 minute Assembly 2016 Highlights video summarising  4+ days of worship, teaching, and decision making at: http://home.mennonitechurch.ca/saskatoon2016

 

·     Featured prayer request from the wider church (to receive regular prayer requests, subscribe to PrayerNet at: www.commonword.ca/go/96). Due to the dramatic success of Wrongs to Rights, a special edition of the Mennonite Church Canada Indigenous publication Intotemak, two more special issues are planned. Each will explore one of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action, which are designed help implement the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. The summer/fall 2016 issue looks at Call to Action #49 and the Doctrine of Discovery. The winter/spring 2016/2017 issue addresses Call to Action #60, the need to respect Indigenous spiritualities and address spiritual violence. Please pray for Steve Heinrichs, Director, Indigenous Relations and Cheryl Woelk of Rosthern Mennonite Church (Saskatchewan) as they co-edit this ambitious endeavour. ·         The Graduate School of Theology and Ministry at Canadian Mennonite University is now accepting registrations for the Fall 2016 semester. Students from a wide range of denominations and traditions are invited into the GSTM community of scholars and passionate educators who are committed to the life of the church, experienced in mission and service, and accomplished in research and publication. Canadian Mennonite University Events and Opportunities for Church Bulletins

1.      Save the date: Fall Festival / CMU Shaftesbury Campus / September 23-24. Come celebrate with us during CMU's annual Fall Festival! With something for everyone – students, alumni, friends, donors, and community members – Fall Festival is a high energy weekend that features opportunities to connect, learn, play, and celebrate with the CMU Community.

 

2.      Evening Courses: CMU offers a number of evening courses as part of its undergraduate curriculum. These courses are available for audit or credit to students not enrolled in a full time program. Evening courses offered this fall include The Problem of Evil in Biblical Perspective, Interpersonal Communication, and History of Art and Culture. Additionally there are many courses offered during day time hours. For further information go to cmu.ca/timetable.

 

3.      Portable CMU: Canadian Mennonite University offers a wide variety of short courses and workshops on a range of topics to resource congregations in their local communities. Note that the subsidy CMU provides has been significantly increased and new topics are offered. 4.      Take and Read: A Theological Book Discussion Group: Engage in discussion facilitated by CMU Faculty member Dr. Paul Doerksen during the 2016/2017 school year. The theme will be The Objects of Our Love: The Shaping Power of Attention. The first of four bi-monthly sessions will take place on Wednesday October 5, 2016 in the Large Board Room on the north side of Shaftesbury Campus. Children's reading program - The summer reading program at Sam's Place is still accepting readers! This free program runs at 159 Henderson Hwy, Monday through Thursday mornings, until August 25. Hosts needed - MCC Manitoba is seeking host families for two participants in IVEP (International Volunteer Exchange Program) for an 11 month period beginning in September. Host families are needed in the South Winnipeg and Central Winnipeg areas. Kanadiertreffen - A gathering of Low German speaking Mennonites emigrating from Latin America. The event will include stories by Kennert Giesbrecht, Editor of Die Mennonitsche Post, music by Henry and Susie Zacharias, and a children’s program. Sunday, August 21, 2:30 pm at the Bethel Heritage Park next to the Winkler Library in downtown Winkler. Bring something to share for the potluck faspa, come and knack some zöt with us!
