Hildegard Adrian in Bethesda Hospital

CHURCH FAMILY INFORMATION

Congratulations to Trudy and Levi Hiebert, proud grandparents to a baby girl, Isabela, born June 7, 2017. Parents are Val and Karis Kornelson.

In Memoriam: We remember George Rempel who passed away a year ago on June 15th. Pray for God’s comfort and peace to the family and friends these days.

New Lead Pastor update: We are pleased to announce that Lee Hiebert has accepted the invitation from SMC to be our Lead Pastor. His starting date will be August 1. Lee and Rachel are currently looking for housing and hoping to move to Steinbach shortly. We are also very thankful that Victor Kliewer has agreed to extend his time with us to July 31. We have all prayed for SMC during this time, and God has answered our prayers! – Ed Peters for the Pastoral Search Committee

Response from Lee and Rachel Hiebert: Thank you to the SMC community for hosting us last weekend! We enjoyed meeting you and spending time worshipping with you. It was such a blessing to hear about the overwhelming decision from the congregation to extend an invitation for me to be Lead Pastor. I am honoured to accept this invitation and am looking forward to getting to know you better in the coming years. May God richly bless us as we travel this road together!

CONFERENCE AND COMMUNITY NEWS AND EVENTS

Applications for Chaplain are invited by the board of Steinbach Housing Inc. The position is part-time (2 days/week) and includes planning worship services and pastoral care at Fernwood Place and Linden Place. A complete position description is available on the bulletin board in the foyer. Applications should be sent to David Driedger, CEO, 177 Woodhaven Ave., Steinbach MB, R5G 1K7, by June 30.

Canadian Foodgrains Bank appeal:  In Somalia, South Sudan, Nigeria, and Yemen 20 million people are facing famine, the largest humanitarian crisis in over 70 years. Until June 30, the Canadian government is offering a 1:1 match on every donation towards this famine relief. (This is on top of the usual 4:1 match that the government offers.) Thank you for all support! Donations can be made through SMC offerings or online www.foodgrainsbank.ca.

Congregational Meeting on Sunday, June 4th:

With a registered attendance of 99, we made two very important decisions.

1. By an overwhelming majority, SMC members chose to hire candidate Lee Hiebert as our Lead Pastor!

2. The Rebuild SMC Task Force asked whether the congregation should remain in the current building or consider proposals to purchase the property that have come our way.  Members clearly indicated that we want to remain where we are at this time along with the ministry of Steinbach Community Outreach (SCO).

Some additional information was received.

1. The Gift Discernment Committee announced several slots that have been filled in the new organisational chart.

2. A summer schedule was distributed by the Worship Council.  It is available at the Welcome Centre.

3. The Facilities Trustee Committee provided details on SCO's move to the second floor.

Thank you for your participation and prayers as we move forward together!
